"A bystander who stopped to assist the woman was also allegedly stabbed by the suspect," Caruana stated, "but that individual is now in stable condition."
Rockford Police Chief Carla Redd expressed her shock, saying, "Words fail to convey my thoughts at this moment; this is an incredibly painful incident. This was a brutal crime."
Redd emphasized that not all of the victims were stabbed in the series of attacks and that there were no gunshot victims.
