A tragic incident occurred in South Africa on Thursday when a bus plunged off a bridge, falling over 150 feet and resulting in the deaths of 45 individuals, as confirmed by officials.
The only survivor of this devastating crash is an 8-year-old girl.
The bus was on its way from Botswana to an annual Easter festival at a church in Moria, situated in South Africa's northern province of Limpopo.
According to the Department of Transport and Community Safety in Limpopo, the driver lost control on the bridge, crashing into barriers before the bus fell approximately 50 meters onto a rocky surface.
Rescue operations continued late into Thursday, with some bodies badly burned and others trapped within the wreckage.
The 8-year-old survivor, a girl, was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, though her current condition remains undisclosed.
Rescue workers revealed that the bus was towing a trailer, which likely added to the weight and impact of the fall. Sindisiwe Chikunga, South Africa's Minister of Transport, expressed her condolences to the affected families at the crash site, emphasizing the need for responsible driving, especially during the busy Easter weekend.
