Man Stabbed Multiple Times in NYC Subway Over Smoking Dispute
A dispute over smoking on a New York City subway train early Monday morning ended with one man stabbing another multiple times in the back, leading to the arrest of the assailant.
The altercation occurred on a Brooklyn-bound train headed for Manhattan, with the argument sparked by smoking onboard, which is prohibited and can result in a $50 fine, according to the NYPD.
At 4:35 a.m., police received a 911 call reporting a person in distress. Upon arrival, they found a 52-year-old man with multiple stab wounds to his back. He was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
The suspect was later apprehended outside a Brooklyn train station, though details about charges have not yet been released.
The incident occurred just before the NYPD announced plans to increase the presence of both uniformed and plainclothes officers in the subway system to crack down on fare evasion as part of a weeklong operation.
