House GOP in Turmoil: Shock Resignations, Threats, and a Party Divided!

WASHINGTON — The day began with House conservatives criticizing the $1.2 trillion spending bill negotiated with Democrats, causing uncertainty about its fate.

Despite winning 68% of the vote, with 67% needed for passage, a majority of Republicans opposed it.

The day worsened for House Republicans as they adjourned for a two-week recess, highlighting internal discord.

Rep.

Marjorie Taylor Greene filed a motion to remove Speaker Mike Johnson, citing dissatisfaction with his leadership.

While she did not immediately trigger a vote, the threat looms over Johnson.

Rep. Ken Buck, who had challenged his party's false election claims, resigned, emphasizing a new party litmus test.

His departure, along with Rep. Mike Gallagher's early retirement, further reduces the GOP majority, potentially leaving Johnson with a slim margin.

Additionally, House Appropriations Chair Kay Granger resigned early, underscoring the dysfunction in government funding processes. Democrats expressed shock at the unfolding events, likening them to a scene from a movie.

Expelled former congressman George Santos announced an independent run for New York's 1st District, potentially splitting the GOP vote. Santos, expelled for fabricating his resume and facing federal charges, criticized the Republican Party's integrity, leading to his departure.
