DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A monumental $1.09 billion Powerball jackpot, standing as the 9th largest in U.S. lottery history, will be available for the taking on Wednesday night.
The jackpot has been progressively increasing for more than three months, underscoring the daunting odds of 1 in 292.2 million of securing the grand prize.
Following the last jackpot triumph on Jan. 1, there have been 39 consecutive draws without a single individual matching all six numbers to hit the jackpot.
Despite this, lottery officials emphasize that numerous individuals have claimed smaller prizes ranging from $2 to $2 million.
The $1.09 billion prize is designated for a single victor who selects the annuity option, involving 30 annual payments. Nonetheless, winners typically opt for the cash alternative, which for Wednesday's draw is approximated at $527.3 million.
Powerball is widely played across 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
