Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador announced on Monday that he had discussed with U.S. President Joe Biden the importance of maintaining an open border for legal immigration between their countries.
During a regular press conference, Lopez Obrador stated that he and Biden had a phone conversation on Sunday afternoon. "We spoke about the importance of keeping the border open for those who are in legal processes to enter the United States," the Mexican leader remarked, "while also preventing irregular migration."
Lopez Obrador also highlighted a decrease in arrivals at the U.S.-Mexico border, noting that the numbers had fallen to around 6,000 per day in January. He attributed this decline in part to social programs in other Latin American countries supported by Mexico.
