A shooting incident unfolded at a bar within a bustling outdoor mall in a Miami suburb during the early hours of Saturday, resulting in two fatalities and seven injuries.
The altercation began at a martini bar located in the CityPlace Doral complex around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday.
In response to the escalating situation, a security guard at the scene intervened.
However, the confrontation took a deadly turn when one of the individuals involved in the altercation produced a firearm and fatally shot the guard. Subsequently, responding police officers confronted the alleged gunman, resulting in his demise.
Regrettably, during the exchange, one officer and six bystanders suffered gunshot wounds.
Of the injured bystanders, two are in critical condition, while the wounded officer is in stable condition after being shot in the leg.
Law enforcement has apprehended an individual identified as the person involved in the initial altercation with the gunman.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is currently investigating the use of force by the local police officers during the incident.
Authorities have emphasized that it is premature to determine the specifics of who fired the shots, and the investigation is ongoing.
It is noteworthy that Miami-area law enforcement agencies had conducted a mass casualty training exercise at CityPlace Doral just a year prior to the incident. CityPlace, which commenced operations in 2017, is a sprawling mixed-use development featuring an array of restaurants, retailers, and a residential complex.
