American Soldier's Shocking Arrest in Russia Sparks International Outrage!

A lawyer representing Gordon Black, a U.S. Army soldier detained in Russia, has lodged an appeal against his detention, as reported by the state-owned TASS news service.

Black was arrested in Vladivostok earlier this month on charges of criminal misconduct, according to the U.S. Army.

Two U.S. officials disclosed to ABC News last week that Black, a staff sergeant, had been stationed in South Korea before taking temporary leave. The officials noted that he had not received permission to travel to Russia.

Black had traveled to Russia to visit his girlfriend, according to his mother, Melody Jones, who spoke to ABC News' "Good Morning America" last week.

Vladivostok, situated in Russia's far-eastern Primorsky Territory near the North Korean border, is a port city.

TASS reported the appeal in collaboration with the joint press service of the Primorsky Territory's judicial system.
