The building, constructed by a South Korean company for investment purposes outside the factory park, was confirmed to have been dismantled, though it was never utilized even when the Kaesong Industrial Complex was operational before South Korea suspended its activities in February 2016 in response to North Korea's nuclear and long-range missile tests.
Earlier this week, the Voice of America reported that the building, located approximately 50 meters from the factory park entrance, had been taken down, citing satellite imagery.
Once a symbol of inter-Korean reconciliation, the Kaesong complex housed over 120 small South Korean plants that employed more than 54,300 North Korean workers to produce garments and other labor-intensive goods.
Against the backdrop of strained inter-Korean relations, North Korea destroyed the joint liaison office in the Kaesong complex in June 2020 in response to Seoul's inability to prevent North Korean defectors from sending anti-Pyongyang leaflets across the border.
