A 10-month-old girl who was abducted in Clovis, New Mexico, has been found, the FBI Albuquerque Division announced on Monday. A suspect, Alek Isaiah Collins, 26, from Manvel, Texas, has been taken into custody.
The infant, Eleia Maria Torres, was taken to a local hospital as a precaution, according to a press release from the Clovis Police Department. Collins was arrested in Abilene, Texas, on Monday and is facing charges of aggravated robbery and assault on a peace officer, with other charges pending, Abilene Police reported.
Law enforcement officers located a residence in North Abilene where the suspect was reportedly staying. Narcotic agents set up surveillance on the home at 4:30 a.m. local time on Monday, and Collins was arrested without incident, police said. The baby was placed in protective custody and evaluated by medical personnel.
Collins is also under investigation for the double murder of Torres' mother, Samantha Cisneros, and another woman, Taryn Allen, both 23 years old, from Texico, New Mexico. The shooting of the baby's 5-year-old sister in New Mexico last week is also part of the investigation. Collins is subject to a United States Marshal hold regarding the alleged New Mexico killings and kidnapping, officials said.
The bodies of Cisneros and Allen were found at Ned Houk Memorial Park, north of Clovis, on Friday, with apparent gunshot wounds, police said. A 5-year-old child, who was found at the scene with a head injury, is recovering at a local hospital, Deputy Chief of Clovis Police Trevor Thron said Sunday.
"Our hearts are with the victim and her family during this incredibly difficult time," Thron said of the 5-year-old child. "And we fervently hope for swift and complete recovery."
Officers discovered an infant car seat, stroller, and a small baby bottle left at the scene and immediately began searching for the infant, officials said.
