Tragic Loss: 'Line of Duty' Star Brian McCardie Passes Away at 59 – Fans Mourn

Scottish actor Brian McCardie, renowned for his portrayal of Tommy Hunter in the BBC series “Line of Duty,” passed away on Sunday at the age of 59.

His sister, Sarah McCardie, broke the news on her social media account, expressing profound sorrow: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brian James McCardie (59), beloved son, brother, uncle, and dear friend to so many. Brian passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, April 28th. A talented and passionate actor on both stage and screen, Brian adored his craft and touched numerous lives, leaving us far too soon.” The statement continued, “We cherish his memory and will dearly miss him; please keep Brian in your thoughts. Funeral arrangements will be shared in the days to come. As a family, we request privacy during this difficult time.”

McCardie’s agency, United Agents, also confirmed the tragic news, expressing shock and deep sadness: “We are shocked and deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Brian McCardie. He was a remarkably talented actor whom we were fortunate to represent, and our hearts go out to his family and friends.”

Although McCardie had a limited appearance in “Line of Duty” during its first two seasons, his portrayal of Tommy Hunter left a lasting impression. The show’s creator Jed Mercurio and executive producer Simon Heath praised McCardie, stating, “Brian was an incredibly talented actor, and the lasting impact he had as Tommy Hunter is testament to the power of his performance.”

Off-screen, McCardie was described as warm, funny, and charming, a stark contrast to the character he portrayed. His recent work included filming the Outlander prequel “Blood of My Blood.” His other notable credits include “Time,” “Rob Roy,” “Filth,” “The Damned United,” and “Murder Is Easy."
