A tragic event unfolded on Saturday night in Buffalo, New York, as a 14-year-old girl lost her life and five other teenagers were injured in a shooting outside a house party. The incident occurred in Buffalo's East Side neighborhood shortly after 11 p.m., with "several hundred" teenagers gathered for the party, according to authorities.
Expressing deep sorrow, Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown called it "a tragic day in the city of Buffalo," revealing that six young people aged between 14 and 16 were shot, with a 15-year-old boy in critical but stable condition, and the other four wounded teenagers expected to recover.
As of Sunday afternoon, no arrests had been made, and the Buffalo Police Department appealed to anyone with information to come forward. Chief of Detectives William Craig Macy urged the shooter to surrender, saying, "If you were shooting and you want to prove that you have a conscience, we would encourage you to come in."
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities looking into the possibility of multiple shooters, as at least three handguns were brought to the party. The shooting followed earlier reports of noise and fights involving a large group of teenagers in the area. Police had responded to disperse the crowd before the shooting occurred.
The victims were shot outside a private house party, with the 14-year-old girl found fatally wounded at the scene. She was pronounced dead at Oishei Children's Hospital in Buffalo. The other injured teenagers were taken to the Erie County Medical Center, where one remained in critical condition on Sunday.
Although the motive for the shooting remains unclear, it is believed to be linked to fights that broke out at the party. Several shell casings were found at the scene, and investigators are seeking witnesses who were present at the gathering.
Despite the large number of attendees, authorities have not received information from many of them. Macy emphasized the importance of speaking to anyone who witnessed the shootings, as their cooperation could be crucial to the investigation.
