A private school principal in Ocala, Florida, has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a student in a classroom over an extended period, according to authorities.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office reported the arrest of 33-year-old Dontay "Donnie" Akeem Prophet, principal of Destiny Leadership Academy, on May 11. He faces charges of aggravated child abuse and false imprisonment of a child under 13. The incident unfolded on May 10 when a deputy responded to a call at the school regarding a physical altercation involving the principal and a student.

Surveillance footage from the classroom purportedly showed Prophet preventing a 13-year-old boy from leaving, striking him in the face and head with a computer charger, and hurling him to the floor, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by FOX 35 Orlando.

The footage, beginning at 11:34 a.m., reportedly depicted Prophet approaching the victim, grabbing and restraining him on the ground, using a chokehold, and striking him with a charging cable, resulting in injuries. Prophet also purportedly twisted the boy’s ankle, slapped him, and subjected him to physical abuse.

Around 12:40 p.m., the boy managed to exit the classroom, and the teacher reported the incident to the school secretary after hearing yelling. Upon investigating, the teacher witnessed the principal yelling at the boy, slamming him to the ground, and blocking his exit.

When questioned by the deputy, Prophet claimed he was trying to prevent harm to the child, but the evidence suggested otherwise. Prophet was arrested and taken to Marion County Jail, where he was held without bond.

Destiny Leadership Academy did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment. However, FOX 35 reported that the school terminated Prophet's employment.

Court records revealed that Prophet was previously arrested in 2019 on molestation charges stemming from a 2017 incident. The charges were dropped, and he was sentenced to 90 days in jail for interfering with child custody, in addition to probation.
