ABC News Shakeup: President Kim Godwin Resigns After Power Struggle!

President Kim Godwin resigned on Sunday night, following a corporate restructuring that significantly reduced her management authority.

In an email to staff, Godwin announced her retirement from broadcast journalism, acknowledging the unique and demanding nature of the industry. She expressed that this decision was not taken lightly, but after thoughtful consideration, she believes it is the right choice for her and her family. No successor has been named for Godwin, who assumed the role of president in 2021.

Godwin's retirement follows a February restructuring that placed her under the leadership of Debra O'Connell, the president of Disney's news group. O'Connell, a long-time company veteran, has a deep understanding of ABC News, having previously reviewed operations across Disney's networks.

When Godwin transitioned to ABC News from CBS, she faced significant challenges. Despite the division's strong ratings, there were widespread concerns about a cutthroat and toxic work environment. During her tenure, Godwin became a polarizing figure within the network. Critics accused her and her inner circle of stifling discussion and dissent, while also failing to address challenges such as declining ratings on "Good Morning America."
