Tragedy Strikes: Cargo Ship Collision Claims Lives of 6 Workers on Baltimore Bridge

Tragedy struck Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge when a cargo ship collided with it, leading to the presumed deaths of six construction workers.

The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday while eight workers were repairing potholes on the bridge.

The impact caused them to fall into the cold waters below, with two workers being rescued.

Despite extensive search efforts, including suspending search and rescue operations on Tuesday evening, officials have shifted focus to recovery operations.

Rear Adm. Shannon Gilreath stated that due to the duration of the search, the challenging water conditions, and the cold temperatures, it is unlikely that any of the missing workers will be found alive.

Among the missing is Miguel Luna, a construction worker from El Salvador, who has lived in Maryland for over 19 years.

Luna, a husband and father of three, left for work on Monday evening and has not returned home since.

Additionally, two workers from Guatemala, whose names have not been released, are also among the missing. The Guatemalan Consul General in Maryland has been in contact with their families. The missing workers are a 26-year-old from San Luis, Petén, and a 35-year-old from Camotán, Chiquimula.
