Pageant Shockwaves: Miss Teen USA & Miss USA Resign! What Happened?

Miss Teen USA made headlines on Wednesday with her resignation, adding to the recent shockwaves in the pageant world following Miss USA's decision to step down.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, UmaSofia Srivastava explained that her values no longer aligned with the organization's direction, leading her to resign from her title. The high school student from New Jersey, who won the pageant in September, expressed pride in being the first Mexican-Indian American to hold the role. She looks forward to completing 11th grade as part of the National Honor Society and embarking on the college application process, emphasizing that her academic achievements are a result of her hard work alone.

Srivastava intends to continue her advocacy for education and acceptance through her work with the Lotus Petal and Bridge of Books foundations. The pageant organization responded with respect for her decision, emphasizing the well-being of titleholders as a top priority and announcing plans to name a successor soon.

Both Srivastava and the Miss Universe and Miss USA organizations did not immediately respond to CNN's requests for comment. This resignation follows Noelia Voigt's decision to step down from her Miss USA title earlier in the week, citing mental health reasons. Voigt, who is Venezuelan American, emphasized the importance of prioritizing mental health, advocating for oneself and others, and facing the future with courage.

Her resignation sparked speculation among fans, as the first letter of the first 11 sentences of her statement spelled out "I am silenced," leading to questions about a potential non-disclosure agreement. The Miss USA Organization supported Voigt's decision and stated that plans for a successor are being reviewed.

These resignations, along with the departure of the organization's social media director Claudia Michelle, have prompted discussions among fans about the culture of beauty pageants and the need for potential changes. Michelle, in her Instagram post, expressed her disapproval of workplace toxicity and bullying.

Voigt's fellow Miss USA contestants have shown support for her decision, with some asking the organization to release her from any non-disclosure agreements so she can speak freely about her experiences.
