During the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Mick Jagger briefly entered the realm of Louisiana politics, taking a swipe at the state's conservative governor while performing with
The Rolling Stones. After the band wrapped up their rendition of “You Can't Always Get What You Want,” Jagger segued into a discussion about inclusivity, stating, "We want to include him too," in reference to Governor Jeff Landry. Jagger quipped, "Even if he wants to take us back to the Stone Age."
Jagger's remarks, while not specifying particular policies, seemed directed at Landry's conservative stance. Landry, a Republican who enjoyed the endorsement of former President Donald Trump, has championed several controversial conservative causes, including a near-total abortion ban, restrictions on gender-affirming medical care for young transgender individuals, and advocating for harsher sentences for certain crimes.
In a light-hearted response on social media, Landry replied to Jagger's comment, saying, "You can't always get what you want," and jokingly adding, "The only person who might remember the Stone Age is Mick Jagger. Love you buddy, you’re always welcome in Louisiana!" Landry concluded his post with #LoveMyCountryMusic.
