Deadly Tornado Outbreak Sweeps Across Midwest and South: Devastation Unfolds

The death toll continues to rise as severe weather and tornadoes wreak havoc across the Plains, Midwest, and South since Monday.

At least four fatalities have been reported from this multi-day outbreak. Two deaths occurred in Tennessee, one in North Carolina, and another in Barnsdall, Oklahoma, following an EF4 tornado on Monday night.

In Tennessee, where a tornado emergency was declared, homes were obliterated, leaving only foundations. Drone footage from Columbia vividly displays the widespread devastation. The mayor of Columbia reported injuries and property damage due to the storms.

In Alabama, the town of Hanegar reported damage and injuries late last night. Crews worked tirelessly overnight to clear debris.

As of 6:00 a.m. ET, over 200,000 homes and businesses were without power, with the largest number of outages in North Carolina. The National Weather Service issued tornado watches for parts of Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee, cautioning of potential tornadoes, hail, and 70 mph wind gusts.

Flash flood warnings are also in effect, with water rescues necessary in Tennessee. The storms are part of a broader outbreak that originated in the Plains, with at least 919 reports of severe weather, including tornadoes, hail, and damaging winds.
