A teacher in County Donegal is seeking information regarding a minor earthquake near Ballybofey on Thursday evening. Brendan O’Donoghue, a physics teacher at St Columba’s College involved in the Seismology in Schools project, noted the event.
The college, located in Stranorlar, has been highly successful in tracking over a thousand tremors since joining the program nearly 15 years ago. County Donegal, due to its geology, experiences frequent seismic activity, with the school's equipment often recording tremors unnoticed by most. Mr. O’Donoghue believes some individuals may have felt this recent quake, citing his own children hearing a noise resembling snow sliding off the roof.
Despite not hearing anything himself, the seismometers indicated a clear, local signal, likely within ten kilometers of Ballybofey.
While the quake was likely small, some individuals might have experienced shaking. Those who felt the tremor around 20:48 BST are encouraged to contact him.
